Breathe Green

Living La Vida Verde

Introducing my final major here at the University of Plymouth, Breathe Green.

A ceramic mimic of humanity's respiratory function that resembles the importance of our existence with plants.

A total of four Individually, hand-built lung sets each encase live sphagnum moss which enables a natural connection to be created between the user and the art.

The benefits of using moss includes the reduction of stress levels, cleaner oxygen, removal of pollutants in the room and increases mental happiness.

The raw colour of Stoneware contrasting with the natural pop of the green moss creates the collaboration between manufactured and natural goods,

Vida Wave Bowl

A first Year project led me to dive into my persona and who I am as a person. My favourite place on Earth is Costa Rica, which holds some of the world's most endangered plant and animal wildlife.

With a new introduction into ceramics at the time, I dove in to the experimenting of clays, colours and ways of forming. Inspired by the crashing waves and abundancy of wildlife in Costa Rica, I made this Vida Bowl using hand building techniques, natural forms and various inspirational surfaces. Fired and used a clear glaze to enhance its glow.

The Tantalising Candle

Upcycled, Natural Soya Wax Candles

Starting out as a family hobby from my mother, the art of candle making became a trend within my household. As a big lover of candles with a big disliking to the many flaws an everyday candle produces has brought us to the creation of our own upcycled candle.

By collecting jars from our local community ensures all of our glass containers are 100% upcycled and sourced locally.

Using natural soya wax, colour and essential oils, we created a candle that lasts substantially longer than the average shop-bought candle, smells stronger and burns all the way through.

When we make the candles, all of our excess wax is used in the production and experiments of future candles.

Smelly Jelly X Our Sick Earth

Sustainably collected, Biodegradable Paper mache

Inspired by Goal 13: Climate Action from the UN Sustainable Development Goals, I created an eco-friendly alternative to paper Mache using flour and water to create the Earth.

The pieces both display the stress we are putting the Earth under and the damage we are doing to the wildlife within Earth. All of the materials have been locally sourced from personal use / requested by friends and family to ensure I am not actively contributed further to the waste problem.

The Plastic Primitive Drill

No Machines were used in the making of this piece.

Researching into the Neolithic period as part of my 2nd Year Design brief found  myself discovering the tedious tasks people were set to survive inspired me to re-create one of mankind's greatest creations; the drill.

The Spinning Drill was made from flint, wood, twine and sap. It was constructed to make holes in shells to obtain food, and later adapted for fire starting.

Plastic dominates our World today, so I only saw it as an opportunity to combine the materials together to create a modern approach to this way of living.

Using natural materials from Stone, Wood and Flint and combining them with unnatural materials like upcycled plastic water piping and synthetic string found a stronger and more 'realistic' approach to today's age.

Toxic Waste Dreamland

Made with waste materials & the Neolithic plastic drill.

Waste is something that humanity has learned to produce on que. From food, to fashion, to natural waste, we are producing a lot of it.

Inspired by the same brief as the Plastic Primitive Tool, I finished off by created a Dream Catcher from the waste materials I had from the previous designs. Shells, Feathers, Leather and Wood chips were waste products and I combined together to reflect the permanent damage humanity is having on Earth from the materials we exploit.

The dream catcher is a symbol of retaining positivity in a negative situation.
